Sunday, September 19th – Great Greyhound Walk

Great Greyhound Walk 2019
Great Greyhound Walk 2019

Meet 09:45 @ Wimbledon Common. Full Details on Facebook.

The postcode for the car park is SW19 5NQ – this brings you to Windmill Road and the car park is at the far end of it. Googlemaps link: https://goo.gl/maps/gU1cJMwadKzmKyMV7

Please gather on the grass next to the car park at the opposite side to where the cafe is so that we are out of the way of cars and other users of the areas.

The 2.6 mile route is a figure of 8 with the first loop being about 1 mile so that hounds that can’t do the full distance can stop as we pass the car park.

Note – Wimbledon common conservators have said we must pay 50p per human head taking part so please make sure you bring that. I hope this won’t dent any donations to the bucket for WGW.

Theme
Every year, the event has a theme and this year it’s “blue” so feel free to don blue clothing/accessories (humans and hounds).
Rules
Usual rules apply
1. All dogs on short, fixed leads
2. Poop dealt with (pick up or stick’n’flick if appropriate)
3. Please bring a donation or make online through PayPal beforehandFundraising

Usually Surrey Sighthound Walking Group(SSWG) fundraises for both Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare (WGW) and Celia Cross Greyhound Trust (CCGT), splitting donations 50:50.

This walk though is in aid only of WGW as CCGT will be running its own GGGW21 down at Sun Valley. Event header photo is our GGGW19 walk!

About GGGW
The Great Global Greyhound Walk is an annual dog-walking event that aims to raise the profile of rescued and retired (ex-racing) greyhounds, showing the world what beautiful companions these dogs make.

It brings owners together regardless of where their hound is from, to celebrate greyhounds and other sighthounds, to raise awareness of hounds in need and to promote sighthounds as pets in a BIG way.

The initiative has grown from 1,624 sighthounds attending 23 UK walks in 2010, to 8,795 sighthounds walking ‘together’ across the world at 275 walks in 2019!
