Goodnight, our darling Sooty

We are heartbroken that we have today lost this beautiful, black, greyhound boy. Initially diagnosed as a possible old racing injury, it became clear our fears that he was getting more lame, rather than better, were founded when we took him back to the vets and he corroborated that Sooty sadly had osteosarcoma in his front leg and we had to say a final goodbye to our darling boy.

It is so very sad to us that sweet, gentle Sooty never found a forever home, of his own, but it is a great comfort to know he looked on us as his family and to his kennel as a safe place – and his home.

Our grief is immense and and we are just devastated that we will never see his lovely, little face again. 6 year old Sooty was so very nervous when he first arrived with us about a year ago now and we knew he would need a quiet home with another hound to shadow. Once he knew you, he was a cheeky, always happy chap who adored his walks to the end and he was a joy to look after.

He loved going on walks with his favourite people and fosters with his favourite girlfriend, Nova, who lives nearby with our kennel assistant, Monica, and he did so well in the home and thoroughly enjoyed these away breaks with Nova & Monica.

In the last few months, he really progressed socially and loved to walk with his fellow nervous buddies, Billy & Arthur, for company and fun.

Those were Sooty’s happiest times. To know Sooty was to love him and once he really knew you, he loved you back. There will never be another Sooty but the precious memories of his happy times mean he will be forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, darling Sooty. We were so lucky to have known and loved you.

All our love always xxx
