Sammy Foster Report – Now RESERVED

The first time in bringing Sammy home, we went straight outside to ensure any business was done first and instantly he knew this was the time to go to toilet. I was impressed and thought without any need of direction from me we are definitely off to a great start!

Sammy is always on the lookout with a quiet inquisitive nature, any outside sounds and he wants to understand where these noises come from. He also loves to look at birds and horses and will happily stand and just look around for a while. He does all this without pulling you to see what has piqued his interest and respectfully waits for you to walk with him to do an investigate.

In the home, Sammy just wants to be where you are and will give out a loud huff of contentment once you sit down, then he will lay beside you and make sure to keep one eye open to just see what you are up to.

At dinner times Sammy will patiently wait for his bowl to be served, he may nudge lightly if you test his patience but that is all part of his charm and who can blame him! His appetite is always good he licks the bowl dry. We got to experience his eyes light up when he tried steak for the first time and ever since he has a radar nose to sniff out any meats on the kitchen tops.

Sammy has occasionally put paws up on the kitchen surface to sneak a peek at what goodies are lying around however, once you tell him ‘no’ Sammy does tend to listen and take feedback onboard for next time. Sammy tends to learn and pick up on queues quickly; he pauses and considers what to do next from what he’s been taught.

At human and greyhound dinner times Sammy has been known to circle the dining table like a shark to try his luck… he has since learned to lay down on this duvet next to the table while dinner time happens and quite often has a gentle snooze with a watchful side eye on the action. After giving Sammy this training, dinner times were calmer, but one great smelling summer bbq lead to Sammy being so tempted and he may have licked a sausage or two when no one was looking! But on the whole Sammy looks but won’t take action and knows he will have the best praise from his humans if he settles quietly.

Play time with Sammy is always exciting; if you give him a toy he will walk off with it and entertain himself for a while. He once discovered an abandoned tennis ball in the park and was instantly entertained for ages; despite still wearing his muzzle he found it just as fun to nuzzle the ball around the park. Sammy can entertain himself for some time quite happily and has the sweetest expression when a toy acts differently to what he expects and that just ignites his excitement all over again!

Sammy all round has such a sweet, gentle and unassuming personality despite his larger than life size. Sammy will try to fit into any tight space to get close to you, even if it looks uncomfortable, but he will do this to be happily by your side. Sammy deserves a home that will love him for the big guy he is but also for the softy he is inside too. If you can accept that then you will have a great right hand companion to explore and go through life together.
