Buster

Buster Foster Report

Buster has been on a foster week – he did great and is awaiting his very own forever home.

“I have been lucky enough to have Buster at home on foster over this past week. As other volunteers will know, I am a big fan of Buster and his brother Maurice, but Buster exceeded all my expectations.

I really cannot fault him – he was clean in the house, showed no destructive behaviour, slept through the night downstairs, welcomed visitors politely. And a hound once regarded as a bit reactive showed no reactivity to any dogs we met. He even happily went for walks with my friend’s cockapoo!

It was a week of new experiences for Buster from visiting a stable yard to shopping in Hobbycraft, but he could not have done better”.

House Training

·        Fully house trained.

·        Relaxed about urinating and defecating in both the garden and on walks.

·        After his ‘late night wee’, he went through the night without asking to be let out.

Behaviour in the house

·        Extremely well behaved in the house.

·        No chewing, counter surfing or any other bad habits.

·        Not bothered by household noises like the washing machine, hair dryer.

·        Spent much of the day in his bed!

Sleeping habits

·        Anxious about sleeping alone downstairs initially

·        Slept through the night on his own downstairs from the third night onwards without any fuss.

Behaviour around food

·        Extremely polite around our food.

·        No bothering us at the table.

Behaviour with people

·        Not worried about people coming to the house.

·        Greeted visitors politely and did not get over excited.

·        Seems happier with women – got on well with my husband, but became anxious on the one occasion when it was just the two of them in the house.

Behaviour with other dog breeds

·        No reactivity to other breeds (big and small), even when they barked at him.

·        Happy to walk with my friend’s cockapoo.

Behaviour on the lead

·        Walked very well on a single lead without a harness (to avoid rubbing the rash on his underside).

Separation

·        Working towards having time apart from me, with my being in a different room or upstairs, went very well.

·        Also worked on my going through the front door, following the stages in the WGW leaflet, but building up his confidence in this regard will evidently take time and patience.

Other

·        Was remarkably confident with being close to horses and behaved very well on the stable yard

·        Was a big hit with the staff and shoppers in Hobbycraft!
