‘Website Woof’ presents Sally. Sally was born in June 2013.

We hope you enjoy reading the volunteers’ descriptions of their walks with the hounds. If you would like to find out more about Sally please visit our kennels and talk with a member of staff.

The kennels are open daily for hound walking from 11am until 2pm and are located at Burhill Kennels, Turners Lane, Hersham, KT12 4AW. Tel: 01932 224918

When Sally came to stay it was a game of two halves.

For the first half and the majority of the time, Sally was a joy. She is a small, pretty greyhound with a lovely temperament. She is affectionate, enthusiastic and as bright as a button. She is very food motivated and so I think she will be very easy to train. We took her to the park and she walks well on the lead and is curious but not overly reactive with other dogs. She has bags of energy and enjoyed the walk and crashed out on her bed when we got home. She spent the whole evening on her bed, looking up every 10 minutes or so to see if there was anything interesting happening. Curious, she couldn’t be left out of anything that was going on from a trip to the kettle to a trip to the loo! She gobbled down her dinner and Dexter’s too, continuing to search for food around the kitchen.

Sally has come from quite a difficult background: she ran in 90 races and was dumped, only rescued by the goodwill of someone who paid for her to go into a kennel before she came to Hersham Hounds. In the second half of the stay this showed through. It was obvious Sally had never been in a house so she found it all a bit overwhelming, or maybe overly exciting and did a few high speed laps about the place. She has had very little structure and has always had the choice about what she does when. This came through with her toilet habits which were not great. After a rather exhausting and cold trip to the garden at 2am I crashed back on the bed and 30 seconds later she joined us. She kept my feet warm for the next 6 hours and, dare I say smooched her way into our hearts.

‘This is Sally who arrived from Worcester on Sunday December 17th. Sharon and I picked her up at High Wycombe and brought her to the kennels.

She is very confident and calm but interested and alert. She travelled beautifully with our grey Remy. Sally walked very nicely around the field at the back of the kennels, too. Seems fine with other greys but no idea what she thinks of other breeds yet.

She is a very, very pretty little girl and I have a feeling she’ll fly out the door as she is beautiful. She enjoys cheese and sausages and gave me a lovely leg-lean hug when we stopped to chat to another walker. I’m smitten. How about you?’
