A brilliant turnout at the WGW End of Season ‘Thank You’ Party held at the kennels yesterday and the weather was equally superb!
A huge thank you to each and every one of you who took time out of your own weekend break to support us and make it a very special afternoon. It was an opportunity for WGW to show our appreciation too. For those of you who couldn’t come, please accept our sincere thanks for all the support you have given to this charity this year (and by many of you over the years too).
To top it all, Dave Hall (of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ fame, (so called after Dave’s now 13 year old greyhound, Charlie, and demonstrating a tireless record of fundraising dedicated to ‘Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare’) presented a cheque for £5,400, – funds raised by Dave and his team (Chris, Debbie & Chris, Bob & Paula), and through their sheer hard work. I know you are very unassuming about what you have achieved this year and in previous years, but your fundraising, Dave, is phenomenal and you have just bowled us over with this cheque for WGW. Thank you.
It is always an emotional time when you see supporters go out of their way to devote their own time and energy into helping raise funds to keep these kennels running. There would be no Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare without supporters like yourselves and I can assure you, we will never be taking that for granted.
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank those of you who helped us set up and run the day to help make it a success. A big thank you to Phylly at ‘Greytcoats’ for all your donations you have made to WGW from coats sold which you have tailor-made and for making the long trip down here from your home in Hampshire to support the afternoon and give our supporters the chance to measure up their hound for a snug new quality coat. Special thanks also to Helen for all your hard work (with the help of Janie) in creating such a brilliant 2018 calendar, launched at the Party. Nicola – thank you for your wonderful cakes and excellent catering skills; Janie, Nina and Cli for all the arranging, setting up and clearing away; Nina, Angela, Julie, Imogen and anyone else I may have missed in error, for all your wonderful home-baked cakes.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff for their support not only at the Party but throughout the year. It can be a tough job working at the kennels but they have been real troupers.
And finally, we know that you, our supporters, are the lifeblood of this charity. Without you all, we would not be able to care for as many greyhounds we do in the way that we do. A truly heartfelt thank you x
Carol (Manager, WGW)
