Hersham Hounds

... because there is life beyond the track ...

Featured Hounds

The good news is that Duncan, Jenny, Smarty, Lonnie and Bandit, have all gone home, though sadly, Lonnie only had two short months in a home before he was diagnosed with bone cancer.

That’s just one of the reasons that the x- factor hounds, and the people who take them into their hearts and their homes, are so special. Dumbo, the only remaining original x-factor hound, is still waiting for someone to be his special friend. So if you think you could be the one, please contact the kennels or come down and meet him.

Tally

Born 2002

One of our famous five, who all lost their home when their owner died and his daughter no longer wanted to keep them.

She’s had her teeth done, and is at the moment having a corn on her hind leg treated. She does carry this leg, but our vet wants to wait and see how she goes once the bandages are off. It could be an old injury and we will be guided by our vet as to whether further treatment would be beneficial.

Tally

Despite everything she’s been through Tally is an absolute sweetheart and she thrives on any extra attention she is given.

We have yet to assess her with other breeds of dog as her trips out have been delayed because of her bandaged foot.

Dumbo

Dumbo’s elderly owner fell and broke his hip, and is no longer able to care for him. He’s seven, and although he’d been in a home for many years, he was not well socialized with other breeds. He’s nervous of people he doesn’t know, especially men.

Dumbo would really benefit from having someone come to the kennels and meet him on a regular basis, so that he could build up a bond with them, and learn to trust them.

In the right hands, he would come along in leaps and bounds. Literally.

And an update ....

Dumbo has been going out and about with Liz, one of his regular walkers. It has really made a difference to this lad and he definitely benefits from the bond of trust they have built up.

Dumbo’s reaction to non-greyhounds is slowly but steadily improving, and he is learning that there is no need to panic. He’s such a loyal, loving, lad and truly adores those he looks upon as his friends.
