Opening Times are from 11am to 2pm each dayTo get to the kennels - Google MapWimbledon Greyhound Welfare is an independent charity devoted to caring for retired racing greyhounds and finding them homes. We are self-funding and rely on the kindness and generosity of our supporters and the general public
We care for approximately 80 greyhounds at our kennels in Hersham, and the majority of these are gifted into us by their owners or trainers once their racing days are over so that they have the opportunity to experience life as a family pet. However not all greyhounds are so lucky so we do step in and help those less fortunate greyhounds who are at risk, as and when we are able.
We operate a ‘no destruction’ policy, which means that no greyhound will be put to sleep except on health grounds when there is no other option. For those greyhounds with long term medical or behavioural issues we have a sanctuary – their home for as long as they need it. We actively promote the fact that greyhounds make wonderful pets and adapt to life after racing very well.
Enjoy your trip round our website but better still come to our kennels and meet the stars of this particular show.

Thank You to the Caterham, Chipstead and Coulsdon Dog Training Club
We would like to say a big thank you to the members of the Caterham, Chipstead and Coulsdon Dog Training Club who carried out a number of fundraising initiatives over the last 12 months.

Although there are currently no greyhounds in the training group, a few of the members owned greys in the past and everyone was more than happy to make a donation to Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare.
The club organised raffles, sales and sponsored ‘Keep Still’ sessions for the dogs. When Paula and Bob Boswell went to visit the club a few days ago they were presented with a cheque of £814 for WGW!
A big contributor to this fantastic amount was a lively, hairy lurcher called Wilfred.
He raised an impressive £330 in sponsorship money for his ‘Keep Still’. Not an easy task for the little live wire and his owners Gail and Alan Simpkins have every reason to be proud of him.
Thanks to all of you!
Music Magpie Appeal
A big thank you to all those who donated their unwanted CDs, DVDs and Games to the Music Magpie appeal. We thought you would be interested to know that as a result of the appeal we have so far sent a total of 685 items to Music Magpie (only 9 of which have been rejected) and have received cheques amounting to £449-50p (an average of 65p per item) There is also another £30 or so in the pipeline.
Unfortunately, Music Magpie have now effectively abandoned their charity scheme whereby they paid a minimum of 50p per item, although we should say that Estelle Stock of Music Magpie, who ran the scheme, was particularly helpful in allowing us to send items right up to the deadline, and also on one occasion they paid out in full when a batch went astray. It is worth continuing the appeal as they still pay around 25p per item and in some cases considerably more, and there are alternatives, such as CeX, who sometimes pay more. Although it might be thought that we have exhausted the potential of the appeal, our impression is that most of the items are the result of a relatively small number of people donating a large number of items, so if you have even a small number of unwanted items please donate them. Why not ask your friends and families or make an appeal at work?
Items suitable for donation are CDs, DVDs and games (the latter pay really well, so thanks in particular to the person who donated a batch of PS3 games). Items must have a barcode and should be complete with artwork and undamaged (minor scratches and wear are usually acceptable), but if you have any doubts put them in and we will weed out any unacceptable items. There is a box for donations at the kennels but if you have any queries contact

The Great British Greyhound Walk
The Great British Greyhound Walk is an annual dog-walking event that brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners, to raise awareness and show members of the public just what wonderful pets greyhounds make.
Every year, large group-walks are held nationwide on the same day and at the same time; together, the groups walk concurrently as one huge family, promoting greyhounds one step at a time.
Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare will be taking part and regular walkers can book kennel hounds out to this event.

Be observant for spiked dog food
Please be observant and vigilant while walking your hounds - we have been asked by a Royal Parks warden to warn owners and greyhound walkers of this potential horrible craze of people placing sharp objects in dog food and leaving it in dog walking areas.
No cases yet in either Bushy or Richmond Parks but we have been asked to let dog walkers know.
Lingfield Park Meet and Greet - Saturday July 27th
We have secured another evening at Lingfield Park Race Course for a meet and greet with our hounds. These nights are great for our bucket collections and raising awareness, plus you can enjoy an evening at the races.
Would anyone like to join us? I still have a few places left if anyone can spare their time with their hounds?
The approximate timings at the moment are 4 - 9 pm however it may change slightly nearer the time. Due to the timings, this event won't be suitable for our kennel hounds (unless anyone is planning to take one of our little poppitts on an overnight stay???) however if you have a hound and would like to join us, please let contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
