We have drawn up a list of items we really need for the hounds and the kennels, which we have to buy ourselves as day-to-day essentials, but which we could really use your help with from time to time. So if and when you could possibly donate any of the following we would be very grateful. • Packets of Pasta (dried or fresh) • Tins of Tuna / Sardines /Pilchards • Tins of Dog Food • Packs (or Tins) of Cooked Meats e.g.Corned Beef /Ham/ Spam/ Chicken Roll • Minced beef or chicken (frozen or fresh) • Bin Bags (Large) • Toilet Rolls • Zoflora Concentrated Disinfectant (or similar) • Tins of White Paint (unopened please!) - Emulsion / Gloss / Masonry • Paintbrushes • Books of Stamps
Thanks to your ongoing generosity we have a very good supply of dog-biscuit (treats, such as Bonio’s, shapes etc.,) bleach, disinfectant, washing- up liquid, hand soap, cotton buds, cotton wool, sudocreme, baby lotion and tea-bags.
But, please be aware ...
Over the past few years it has become increasingly difficult, and expensive, to dispose of all the rubbish generated here at the kennels.
By-laws, regulations etc., have changed so rapidly, that even our waste disposal contractors have had trouble keeping up with them. I’m sure that each and every one of you can relate to what I’m saying. The complexity and ridiculous lengths we are expected to go to do make me question whether the people making these decisions are living in some kind of parallel universe! And I’m sure I’m not the only person who feels that it has very little to do with saving the planet or global warming; more to do with how much more money can we squeeze out of these people. Think I’m joking?
Latest instruction is that we can no longer burn our old paper bedding. No, according to the powers that be, it makes far more sense for us to have to pay someone to come and collect it, take it to the local refuse centre, where it will be loaded onto another lorry to be taken to land-fill No wonder fly tipping is rife!
By now I can hear you say…….” Come on Denise, get to the point”
Well the point is this. We have to be very careful what we accept here at the kennels by way of donations, because everything we have to dispose of costs us dearly financially, and in the time it takes to sort, and then transfer to the tip.
We can no longer accept the following, not because we are being picky, or ungrateful, but for all of the above reasons, in addition to the ongoing problems with lack of storage space.
Blankets Duvets Pillows/ cushions etc. Old dog beds. Leftover paint. Shredded paper. Newspaper. Fridges or freezers Furniture.
Please if you have anything you would like to donate, and aren’t sure, then give us a call first. And please, don’t be offended if we say no.
As always, thank you for your kindness and generosity,
Denise
